Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Acrylic on Canvas, 36" x 48"

Perfect Guacamole

2 ripe avocados
1/2 red onion, finely chopped
1 ripe tomato, seeded & chopped
1tsp cumin
1 tbsp fresh lime juice
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper

Cut avocados in half, remove pit. Scoop out avocado & mash lightly with a fork. Add onions, tomatoes, lime juice, cumin, salt & pepper. Mash again, but don't overdo it! This guacamole should be a little chunky.

Create, eat, enjoy.

11th Toronto Timeraiser

On Saturday, May 24th, I'll be participating in the 11th Toronto Timeraiser -- a silent art auction where visitors bid volunteer hours instead of money. Throughout the evening, guests will meet with various non-profit organizations in order to find available volunteer opportunities that meet their needs. Once matches are made, the bidding begins. I am so proud to be a part of this year's event! Here are the details:

WHEN: Saturday, May 24th, 7pm - 10pm
WHERE: The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery
231 Queens Quay West, Toronto, ON M5J 2G8

Bidders will have the opportunity to walk away with this limited edition print, based on the original painting measuring 48" x 48":

Hope to see you there!

The Cookie Project

Is there any better project than a cookie project?

From start to finish, this painting has been an absolute pleasure. The photoshoot wasn't half bad, either. I sorted through three boxes of cookies in order to find the perfect specimen -- a nice, round cookie with good chocolate-exposure. I like PC's Decadent cookies because they are so relatable. We all know their familiar crumbly crunch, followed by that heavenly melt-in-your-mouth sensation. After a few casualties and a glass of milk, I finally found my star.

Acrylic on Canvas, 36" x 36" (work in progress)

I'm currently putting the finishing touches on this painting, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Who wouldn't want to look at a giant chocolate chip cookie every day? I'm aiming to finish by the end of week... stay tuned for the finished product!

Today's Recipe: Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookies

"Tasting Room - Banana," Acrylic on Canvas, 30" x 48"

1 1/2 cups oatmeal, uncooked
2 ripe bananas, mashed with fork until creamy
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon

Preheat Oven to 350 degrees. Mix vanilla and cinnamon into the applesauce. Mix applesauce mixture with all other ingredients and let sit for 10 minutes. Drop cookie dough, by spoonfuls, onto parchment paper lined cookie sheet & flatten cookies into rounds. Bake approx. 20-30 minutes, or until golden. Remove from oven & let rest on cookie sheets for 5 minutes, then move to cooling rack. Store in a covered container when completely cool. Eat & enjoy!

A little bit of string, and a whole lot of love.

I just finished the most amazing commission for an even more amazing family. They wanted a piece of art that reflected the energy in their home, and I couldn't think of a more perfect idea than this 5-foot long wood panel that spells out "love u" in nails and coloured string.

I had a blast working on this piece, which I am slightly obsessed with. There have already been a few requests for smaller scale pieces in this style, and I invite anyone to commission their own nail & string design. I am still working on my photorealist paintings, but projects like this allow me to exercise my creativity. I've become better acquainted with my hammer & nails, and hopefully this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Nuit Blanche Exhibition!

On Saturday, October 5th, I'll be showing two paintings in a Nuit Blanche exhibition at The Elaine Fleck Gallery on Queen West. The iced coffee, shown below, is my latest addition to the "Tasting Room" series. It certainly seems that my recent work is coloured by my love of breakfast.

Be there or be square.

Done and Done.

I just finished the largest painting I've ever worked on. This piece, shown below, will be installed as a mural for a leading internet search company. The shippers are on their way over, and soon, this massive  work of art will find a new home in Montreal.

Acrylic on Canvas, 8ft x 7.5ft

This painting was based on a photograph by David Dworkind, a talented Montreal architect and photographer. Dworkind's work challenged me to use new techniques and new colours, in order to bring his image to life on a massive scale. The hot-pinks and vibrant-blues were a blast to work with, and every time I moved onto a new section of the piece, I gained a new appreciation for the project as a whole. Here are some photos of my journey with this piece, entitled "Computer Guts."

Latest Project: Computer Guts

Here are some photos of my latest project: a massive painting for a leading internet search company. In just a few weeks, this oversized canvas will meet a hyperreal painting of the inside of a computer. The painting will be based on a photo by David Dworkind, a talented Montreal architect and photographer. This was my first time experimenting with a projector, and it was a blast.

A Successful Weekend at TOAE!

The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition was a huge success! Despite the unbearable heat-wave, and the periodic monsoon, thousands of art-lovers came out to the show. I parted with 4 prints, 4 paintings and 6 drawings. I made lots of new friends, ate a lot of fish tacos, and drank a little too much coffee.

This was my first outdoor exhibition. It was challenging, but certainly worthwhile. We had to pack up the artwork every night and re-install it the next morning (Starbucks helped us through those early morning hours). We also had to deal with leaky, overheated tents. I was so impressed by the amount of people that came out in the pouring rain to experience the show. During the heat wave, our friends brought cold drinks and frozen treats, and I am continuously overwhelmed by the support and kindness they have shown me.

TOAE is over, but I am still taking orders for prints & commissions. Any unsold pieces are available through my studio, and through Art Interiors in Forest Hill Village, Toronto. This coming month, I'll mostly be working on a large-scale mural for Google, and in the fall, I'll be participating in The Delicious Food Show, sponsored by The Food Network. I'll also be exhibiting my work at the One of a Kind Christmas Show. Stay tuned for more details!

Thanks again for your amazing support, and be sure to follow me on Facebook, where I post frequent updates about projects and exhibitions:
