The Stinking Rose

Tasting Room - Garlic, Acrylic on Canvas, 24" x 30"

I've been working a little smaller for The Affordable Art Fair in April. I'm loving this piece because of its allusion to flowers, and because of the inherent irony in that association. Before the art fair, I'd like to create several smaller pieces to compliment this one, and later in the month, a giant canvas replete with garlic bulbs! Stay tuned for the video documenting the creation of this piece.

Thank You, Ontario Arts Council

Yesterday I received a very exciting letter, indicating that I've been awarded a Visual Artists Grant from The Ontario Arts Council! This decision was based on the development on my "Tasting Room" series, which has opened many doors for my artistic practice since its debut in 2011. I am so thankful for this opportunity, which will support and expand my creative efforts. No amount of exclamation marks could express the excitement I'm feeling, but I'm hoping that my next paintings will!

Onions from The Tasting Room

It's finally finished! This piece brought me back into the swing of things after The Artist Project. After three weeks of eating and painting red onions, I cannot wait to get started on my next few pieces for The Affordable Art Fair in New York City. If your taste buds are anything like mine, you'll agree that they'll live in perfect harmony with the onions...

Post-Show Painting

This painting is part of a diptych I've been working on. I love the allusion to abstract minimalism in this piece, with its clean white background and jarring burst of colour, as seen in works by Kennth Noland and Kasimir Malevich.

Scotiabank People's Choice Award!

I am thrilled to announce that the Tasting Room Series took second place in this year's Scotiabank People's Choice Awards. Thanks to The Artist Project for this amazing opportunity, and congratulations to the other winners! I am especially proud of my friend Jason Holley for his well-deserved win. The Artist Project has opened up my artistic practice to all sorts of new media. Just this morning, I came upon this photo in Flare Magazine!

I am more motivated than ever, and cannot wait to post my new diptych - a very purple addition to the Tasting Room series, which will be featured in New York City's Affordable Art Fair next month. Stay tuned!

Art House Magazine

Tasting Room - Pistachios, Acrylic on Canvas, 48" x 48", SOLD

Art House Magazine is a new Canadian arts magazine, scheduled to debut in retail locations across Canada in early 2013. Created and run by Canadian artists for artists, the magazine has had representatives at Canadian art events in order to scout out new talent. I am happy to report that one of my favourite pieces from The Tasting Room Series, shown above, will be featured in the first issue of this magazine! Many thanks to The Artist Project for facilitating this opportunity.

The Artist Project 2012

The Artist Project 2012 was a huge success! I could not have had a more enriching experience, thanks to the show organizers, my fellow exhibitors, and those art enthusiasts who brought the fair to life. It was bitter-sweet when I parted with several large pieces from the Tasting Room series, but I was thrilled with the response they engendered. The show left me so inspired, and I cannot wait to get back to my easel. Thanks to everyone who supported me throughout this fantastic exhibition. I will most definitely be back in 2013!
